Initially working with leaded glass, he now specializes in unique lighting and light sculpture, ranging in work for the wall, table, floor and ceiling. Architectural glasswork includes windows, entryways, room dividers, and wall reliefs. Hand-blown, kiln-formed and etched glass, as well as wood, stone and metal, are among the materials used. One-of-a-kind pieces and limited editions are available. Melby emphasizes original design and quality craftmanship, seeking to satisfy the aesthetic and functional requirements of each commission. Designs have contemporary / minimalist leanings, though he is fluent in all major design movements.
